After a bit of a rest following the end of the 2025/26 season, thoughts are already starting to turn towards next season and the young dogs coming through.

Before training properly gets going again, we thought it was a good time to look back on what’s been a cracking season for Breckmarsh Gundogs.

Trialling has a way of keeping your feet on the ground. Every season has it’s highs and lows.

This season, Breckmarsh featured as a leading kennel in the Working Spaniel season stats for open Cockers.

More importantly for us, dogs carrying the Breckmarsh affix have been winning and placing with different handlers, in different parts of the country.

One of the highlights was seeing FTCH Tiptopjack Ajay and OFTW Breckmarsh Hugh feature as leading sires in Open Cocker stakes.

Lee also featured in the leading handlers’ statistics in Open Cockers, while Breckmarsh dogs continued to appear throughout both the novice and open rankings in Cockers and Springers.

The Cocker Championships are the pinnacle of the season, and it’s always special just being there amongst some of the best dogs and handlers in the country.

Behind the stats is a lot of early mornings, muddy boots, travelling, training, and plenty of disappointments along the way too. Anyone involved in trialling knows there are no shortcuts in it.

We’ve always tried to breed proper working dogs first and foremost, dogs with natural ability, good temperaments, and the kind of trainability that makes them enjoyable to live and work with.

What’s been especially nice this season is that success hasn’t been down to one standout dog. Different Breckmarsh-bred dogs have been making their mark throughout the season, and that probably means more to us than anything else.

A big thank you as well to everyone running, training, owning, and supporting Breckmarsh dogs. Seeing dogs bred here doing well for other people is one of the best parts of it all.

For now, the season’s over, the dogs have had a bit of downtime, and training is slowly starting up again ahead of 2026/27.

It won’t be long before we’re all stood in another wet field somewhere again.
